The Providers app is now called Propel! We may look a little different, but our mission is the same.

(If you’re a current Providers user or have a Providers Card—don’t worry. There’s no action you need to take. It’s the same app you know and love. We just spruced it up a bit.)

10 years ago, we started this company because we didn’t think technology was doing enough to help solve real social problems. Anyone who has tried to navigate a government website, enroll in benefits, or even cash a check can tell you—it’s hard.

In 2015, we launched our app, and started with a simple goal: to help the 41 million Americans receiving SNAP benefits manage their finances better. Instead of saving receipts or calling 1-800 numbers, users could quickly check their balances on their phones.

But this was just the beginning. Since then, we’ve worked with our users, listened to their feedback, and continued to build new tools for them. Our users have inspired us and shaped the way we work.

What we’ve built together

In 2021, we launched the Providers Card: a debit card, designed specifically as a safe place to store and spend government benefits. We’ve since added features like our Benefits Hub, where we share easy-to-understand information about changes to benefit programs. And our Job Board, which helps our users find local gigs and job opportunities.

Behind the scenes, we’re a small team of tech experts and policy researchers, advocating for our users so that their voices are heard by the government. Over the last few years, we've distributed over $180 million in aid and saved our users over $300 million.

We’re proud of what we’ve done so far, and hope we’ve helped our users navigate uncertainty, simplify their benefits, and stretch their dollars.

Now, after 10 years of building, growing, and innovating with our users, we’re excited to announce our new, unified brand: Propel.

Why Propel?

The company behind the Providers app has always been called Propel. Unifying under the Propel name solidifies our commitment to our users, reflecting that we’re all on the same team. It’s not a new name, but (we think) a better name to capture everything we do, and where we’re going together.

Our new look

At Propel, we believe that everyone deserves to get through each month with dignity, and a little something extra. We wanted our new brand to feel welcoming and trustworthy. Our app should be a place where our users feel safe and understood. You also might notice more images of real people paired with vivid colors, highlighting our vibrant and hardworking community.

Our new brand is just the beginning. We have big plans to launch new features, provide better access to information, and keep our users’ benefits safer.

As we look ahead to the next 10 years, we’ll keep asking ourselves the same question: how else can we bring low-income Americans closer to financial security?

We’re excited to get to work.

With gratitude,
