No matter where you shop, all stores have the same rules about what is and isn’t SNAP-eligible. Things like pet food, alcoholic drinks, tobacco products, medicines, vitamins, supplements, and hot prepared foods are not eligible for purchase with SNAP EBT.

  • Cold deli products like hoagies

There are a few exceptions to the SNAP rules that don’t allow hot items. The first exception is the RMP: the Restaurant Meals Program. The RMP lets you buy hot prepared food at eligible restaurants under certain circumstances.

This program assists older adults, people with disabilities, and people who are homeless and struggle to cook, but it’s not available in every state.

The other exception is Disaster-SNAP (D-SNAP). D-SNAP can allow you to buy hot foods with your EBT card during disasters like hurricanes, floods, and wildfires.
